Recent reports have suggested that HTC Corp. is planning to develop an operating system for smartphones, especially for Chinese consumers.
The development process of the OS for smartphones will be monitored by the chairwoman of the company itself, Ms. Cher Wang. Moreover, the OS will be integrated with Chinese system of apps like, Weibo – a microblog app like Twitter.
The Operating System is said to be in market at the end of this year.
This would reflect to a competition Chinese homegrown software development firms giving to its U.S. counterparts – Google and Apple. Apart from having most of the employees in HTC from speaking Chinese, the brand is still a new-comer in China.
HTC China-specific software project relates to a Chinese Government Policy by encouraging the companies in the country to develop its own Operating Systems rather than relying on Western Giants like Google, etc. In March also, China’s Technology ministry said that countries own mobile industry is getting too dependent on western software companies for their operating systems, like Google. It also praised and encouraged a local internet/software firm - Alibaba Group Holding Ltd.
